The WV Country Music Hall of Fame announces that Nathaniel Stalnaker better known as “Flannel”, will be one of the inductees into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
From Clarksburg, WV, Flannel has played an instrument of some sort for over 30 years. Starting with drums, then progressing to bass and electric lead guitar, even acoustic and piano.
Flannel’s first band was with Bernice and Little Country. He was only nine years old. Coincidently at the ripe age of 12 or 13, growing up with fellow Inductee Ryan Cain, they were in a band called Catch a Wave, eager and ready to take on the world. Earlier in their middle school days, Ryan was the one who gave Nathaniel the nickname “Flannel” since he always wore flannel shirts. It has stuck with him to this day.
If you ask Flannel, he would have to say that playing with Garry and Mama’s Pride was what changed his path to discovering his love for country music. He recalls first playing on the Sagebrush Round-Up Music Show when he was 12 years old and has been performing with numerous bands since he was just shy of becoming a teenager. How can you ever mention all the versions of bands and the people along the way without leaving someone out? Each one has had a profound impact on Flannel and his music.
Flannel is dedicated to country music and is always ready and willing to perform. He is a very dedicated musician and a crowd favorite. With Flannel performing alongside so many musicians in several bands, he grew up improving his skills and developing his own unique sound of guitar playing.
Most recently he has been touring with Cody Clayton Eagle from American Idol. Though by far, Flannel’s most defining moment was when he shared the stage with the well known Merle Haggard guitarist, Redd Volkaert. That to him was a dream come true. Today Flannel cherishes the friendship they have developed and looks forward to picking note for note with Redd whenever he is in the area.
